Life’s a Cabaret (Hopefully) at the River Cafe

Talk a about a good deal! Did you know the River Cafe, where men still have to don a jacket to sip a cocktail and the view is just about worth the price you lay out for dinner, pays just $5,536 a month in rent, according to the NY Post? Not a bad deal–though makes sense since it’s run under a city lease through 2025.
But now, owners are looking to up the ante as the Brooklyn Bridge Park readies to open (and takes up some of the eatery’s landscaped parking area). Tonight, it will go before Community Board 2 on an application for a cabaret license which will allow music and dancing. Opposition is expected–mostly due to the lack of faith in the restaurant’s kicking back concession revenues to help the park. I’m sure the new restaurant planned out on Pier 6 is part of their thinking as well.
