Do something a little different and throw your kid’s next birthday at the NY Transit Museum. This is for children 4 years and up and will run you $350 for 12 kids and 4 adults. That means most parents will be dropping off, so you may want to stick to an older crowd. I have no huge interest in watching a group of 4 year olds for an hour and a half.

For this, you’ll get a guided tour of the museum, an age appropriate hands-on workshop, set-up and clean-up and inserts for the invitations with directions to the museum. An extra $50 will get you invitations, paper plates, paper cups, napkins and a tablecloth. Goody bags and party favors can be arranged at various price points and food and refreshments are up to you.

Parties are available Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; or 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
