The Moxie Spot is a mix of an indoor playspace and a family restaurant on two floors of prime space on busy Atlantic Ave. It’s open from 9 to 8:30pm Sunday to Thursday, 9 to 9:30pm on the weekends. And because it is essentially a place where kids can hang out for hours at a time, the owners decided to start charging a $2.50 entry fee for each child from 9am to 5:30 on weekdays. That’s on top of any food you order. However, come in for dinner from 5:30 to 8:30pm Monday through Thursday and kids get a free kids combo, plain pizza, mac and cheese or small pasta with the purchase of an entrée or dinner special.

We love this space for rainy, cold days or if you’re looking for a place to eat with a big party of kids. You have to order your food downstairs and take a number to your table, where it will be delivered whether you stay downstairs or go upstairs to the larger play area with space for arts and crafts. The food is generally good, though portions tend to be fairly small (even for adult food). Some of our faves include the Cuban Panini and the mac and cheese baked in individual portions. Service can be spotty, but the staff is happy and great with the kids.

Special events like a Nintendo Wii Sports Night, Family Movie Night and Family Disco Party happen on a weekly basis so check out the website for times and dates. Private birthday parties can also be arranged on request.
